Why do you need Ostomy Barrier Strips?

Ostomy barrier strips add security to the barrier, customizing your fit on uneven or bulging skin, as well as stomas with a surrounding fistula or wound. They are flexible, self-adhesive and often crescent-shaped. They protect the skin by framing the skin barrier with a thin, flexible, hydrocolloid adhesive.Barrier extenders can also help reduce the risk of leaks and increase wear time by widening the adhesion coverage area and keeping the barrier edge from lifting.The flexible hydrocolloid formulation allows them to absorb moisture that could compromise the integrity of the skin barrier seal. Two barrier extenders can usually reinforce the entire outer edge of the wafer.

How to Use Ostomy Barrier Strips?

1. Clean and dry the skin around the barrier, then remove the release liner from the barrier strip. (This barrier strip can be applied to any brands/types of ostomy bags.)

2. Put the strip on with at least half an inch overlapping the edges of the barrier, then remove the remaining protective paper and smooth the adhesive down to seal.

3. Apply the barrier strip on one side of the wafer. Repeat these steps to apply another barrier strip on the other side of the wafer for a complete reinforced seal.
